"Now, when we talk about using humor in public speaking or speeches, the first thing we have to look at is relevance. And what relevance is; Is how does it relate to the material to the speech? You're giving a speech about dogs, and dog care and you tell a funny antidote about your Grandmother's 83 birthday. She doesn't even have a dog. Alright, that doesn't go together. It must fit in, it must make sense. Something else for you to consider is, if you have to go to great lengths to work in this funny story or joke, or antidote, don't do it. Alright, it should, something that's humorous should slide right into what you're presenting, right into what you're writing. If you have to start distorting propositions and changing things around because you have this funny story over here that you want to include, then don't include it. It will fail. If it fits right in and goes with the flow, add it in, because then it is relevant."
