"We're going to talk about our compliance gaining strategies, and these are things that we can do as communicators; certain ways that we can communicate, so that we can get what we want. The first one is called liking, and I bet you might have done this before. What this is is I'm going to be nice to you; I'm going to be friendly to you, in order to get you in a good mood, so that you will then give me what I want. I might like you; I might not like you, but I'm going to be obviously communicating good feelings, happiness, and joy towards you because I want you to be happy so that I can come in for the kill. Oh wow, now that you're in such a good mood, can we do this?, or now that you're in such a good mood, I wanted to let you know that I painted the bedroom green, or whatever it is. So it could also be labeled or termed buttering up."
