"Alright, now let's talk about compliance resisting strategies. And this is where someone is trying to get you to do something, they're probably doing one of those strategies that we just talked about and you don't want to do it. Example, you're a college student; someone asks you if they can borrow your research paper and copy it. But you don't really want to do that. Well, there are four different strategies that you can take to resist their request and get what you want. And the first one is identity management. And this can be done in a positive sense or a negative sense. But, basically, what we're doing is we're going to address the person who is asking us to make this request. "I can't believe that you would make me compromise my ethics." So basically without saying, "you unethical jerk," I am making a connection between his identity and something wrong. So, "I can't imagine that you are the kind of person that would ask me to do that." You are the kind of person. So that is one of the strategies that you can use to resist complying."
