"Hello! My name is Terry Neven. I am the administrator of the California Home Educators and principal of the Sunland Christian School. In this clip we are going to talk about curriculum. Some home school programs throughout the United States require that you use the curriculum that they have. Others allow families to make the choice of whatever type of curriculum they like. There are different types of curriculum. The first year that you home school there is no magic wand in getting the right curriculum. As a matter of fact, you can make bad curriculum work well. You can also take good curriculum and mess it up. So it is important to understand that you could use textbooks. These are from Bob Jones University Orbeck. You could use workbooks from companies like Alpha Omega or Switched On Schoolhouse or you could use a CD Rom that allows a student to learn by doing all of their work in a computer. There are also curriculum's on-line by through universities or by publishers that create the curriculum on-line. Students can also take classes at local community colleges or group classes where mom is teaching Spanish to a handful of children or you could even use a tutor. There is a wide range of curriculum choices available. There are hundreds of publishers. There are hundreds of different ways to approach it. There is a literature approach from Sunlight curriculum or you can try the hands on approach from a variety of flexible informal ways of teaching home economics or PE. All of these things are important to consider as you think about your different types of choices of curriculum. It is always advisable to contact a local organization and allow them to also help you give you an idea and insight as to how the different curriculum work or what might work best for your child. "
