"Hi, I'm Ann Kennedy on behalf of expertvillage.com and this session we'll be talking about rhyming and reading games. Puppets and poems. Are puppets important to your children? Are their stuffed animals important? Yes yes yes they are because if you think like a child, they are your child's friends and they mean a lot, that you can hold them, they're their security, they're the ones they talk to. So, even something as simple as this paper bag puppet that I made, Mr. Owl, is just as important. And if I find, and you'll find a lot of poems, not only are they, have a lot of repetition but a lot of poems talk about animals. So if you have stuffed animals in your home or if you want to make simple puppets, find a poem as I did about an owl. I saw this poem, I thought oh, what a great little poem, so let me go ahead and make a puppet because I don't have a stuffed animal but if I found a poem about a dog and my child had a little doggie stuffed animal, as their friend, I'd have Mr. Owl read the poem with me. A wise old owl, that's me, a wise old owl sat in an oak tree. The more he heard, the less he spoke. You can do it almost any way you want but you've got the puppet and if the puppet reads the poem, then it works wonders. The child, that's their friend or if the child holds onto the puppet as you're reading it, that works too."
