"Hi, I'm Ann Kennedy and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm here to talk to you about understanding the nature of reading. All about me projects, part two. In our last session we learned about the all about me books as what your child likes and then you have a little book that you both have made together. And something all about me, again, what your child likes, fruits or vegetables, what his or her wishes or wants are. This is a different type of all about me project, as they're doing this, later on you'll be doing other things like creating the beginnings of starting your own book. Let's go outside. You write this, you say it to your child, remember it's so important to write and say, and you tell them, could you tell me what's outside and what you like? And they may draw a tree or I may first have a project that I have, let's go outside, and I'm doing the book to begin with but in this case, let's go outside, what do you like outside? Trees, so they drew the trees. Then what else is it that you like outside? They drew the sun. Is there anything else that we can put on the back cover? Flowers. You said it or they've come to you after they've drawn it and then you say let's go outside. Isn't that beautiful, you just drew some trees and you will write t r e e s and that was the sun, Mr. Sun, so you write s u n. You've made the connection that pictures and text connect. It's a very important concept in learning to read. So that was all about me projects two."
