"Hi, I'm Ann Kennedy on behalf of Expert Village and we'll be looking at correcting common reading problems in children. Young readers common problems, we've looked at 2, we're going to look at a 3rd one now. Your child will read a word or a passage that does not match the story. Again, they're not trying to fool you. They learned the story and they can repeat the story and memorize the story but they're not reading. You need to look at this as a checkpoint, you need to go back and you need to look at the picture and words. You need to ask them, does that make sense? As they're trying to read a few words or the story, you need to be stopping them for a moment and just asking them, where it says, Mr. Wolf runs away. They might say, Mr. Wolf was scared. They were making that up. Does that make sense? Let's slow down and let's read it and see what's happening in the picture. We also ask them to get clues from the pictures. In this particular book, there's a hidden pot. These top of books that have something to look for in the book as a pot, helps them focus and understand and get clues. This helps them with judgment later, so can you get clues from a picture? And it promotes the use of meaning cues; picture or story line. An example; The 2nd little pig builds a house of wood, Mr. Wolf is watching him."
