"Hi, I'm Ann Kennedy on behalf of Expert Village and I'll be teaching you some steps to teach a child to read. Book covers, part four. We learned a little bit about choosing the proper book by its cover, what a child sees, the colors, now we're going to learn a little more about reading a book cover. We're going to start at the top, wherever the title is and we're going to say with our finger, one finger we will use. The, the child has to see your finger working from left to right to develop that concept. Later it will stop a lot of visual perception problems a child may have. Your job is to show a child the top, the bottom, the words and how to sound those words out. So let's start with the title. It's called The, and I take my hand off that last word, Al pha bet, and if you noticed, I sounded out the word, I did not go The Alphabet, I went Al pha bet Book. That's the title of this book we'll be reading and look at the pretty picture. What are they doing? It looks like they're painting. And it's by, here's the author's name, P D Eastman. Point out the author, the illustrator, the picture, the words, slowly, and let the child start understanding what the book will be about. And now let's turn the page and open the book to see what's on page one. Sounds simple to us, doesn't it? But it isn't to a child. And you can enhance your child's reading ability by slowing it down, making sure they understand the top to bottom concepts and how to read left to right and what a title and an illustration and an author is and we'll pick it up in the next lesson."
