"Sometimes you might want to add a greeting to your email. The first thing that your reader is going to read. "Good afternoon everyone from the desk of Jim Smith" whatever you want to put. A greeting makes the email seem a little bit more personal. So that might be something that you want to consider as long as it's not too informal. You don't want in business writing to send an email, "hey everybody! that's too informal but greetings are good, rather than just starting off with your message. Same thing goes for closings. Closings are very good, don't just let your message end. You want to add in a nice closing "thank you for your time", "I appreciate your hard work", "best of luck on this project". Greetings and closings are real important if you want to keep a personal feel about the message rather than just impersonal "here's the information just get the job done"."
