"Hi, there. This is Eddie Matthews on behalf of Expert Village. A few tips for announcers trying to get a career in radio. In this segment, we're going to talk about different formats. There are so many different formats for just about every demographic out there, every age group. A good announcer should be able to talking about bands to sports and even knowing what's happening in the world of politics around there. And that makes you well-rounded. Anyone can talk, but can you think on your feet without always having to fall back on things like what happened on American Idol? It's hard to ignore television, but why always talk about it? It's hard to ignore television, but you want people to tune into your radio broadcast. Not drive them away or give advertisers a reason to take their business from your station over to the TV station or to a network for that matter. I remember calling an announcer who pretty much read from a TV guide about all the new programs coming out in two days. The fall TV season. And he basically told everybody what was on each night of the week. I phoned him up and I told him that I was an advertiser and that I was just thinking about buying advertising at their radio station, but since he mentioned all about these new TV programs, I was taking my business over to the TV channel. I never heard him talk about TV shows ever again. Remember; don't kill your own profession. Its one thing, it's hard to ignore what's happening in the world around you. But make sure you promote from within first."
