"Hi there, this is Eddie Matthews on behalf of Expert Village. A few tips for announcers trying to get a career in radio. In this segment, we're going to talk about using the phones. You know in an age of communication, make sure you capitalize on the phones. Since the computers are running the music, you can concentrate on being a good broadcaster and use the phones when someone calls in. Engage them into conversation. They may have called in just for a request, for a birthday, but you should ask them what they're doing. Have some fun so that you can get even a laugh out of them. You know how great that works, listeners love that, its a sense of voyeurism, they're listening to a conversation. It connects you with your audience and will hopefully encourage others to call in as well. They want to feel comfortable. The people are listening to the radio and they hear you talking to someone else and its a very comfortable conversation, you may encourage them to call in as well. Very few people in radio, from the listener side will call in. Very small percentage of people will actually call in for any radio show, but if you make it easy for them, you'll have people feeling comfortable to call in. And if by chance, these people happen to get a BBM diary sent to them, they will probably put down your station first since they know that they have that connection with you. Its a whole bunch of little things that allows you to really connect to your listener and it makes the station work even better."
