Summary: Runway models have to remember many different things during their walk. Learn how to make head turns on the runway with this free video clip from a professional modeling agency.
"Now we're going to talk about the head. You know we have the body controlled on, we have the walk and the stance, but what do we do with our head? Well as a model, it's very important to remember that we are always hangers for the garment, and in order to be the best hanger, the head has to be straight, your posture has to be pulled up as if I had a string on a puppet, and I was just pulling from the top of the head, square shoulders, chin level; if the chin is down, we have a kind of terrible shadow look, and also we can create a little double chin, which is never very good. But if the head is up, very balanced on the shoulders, and then we walk, (as Nikki is going to walk for us) you'll see, that she creates a beautiful, beautiful pallet. Now at the end of the runway, Nikki is going to gaze, and she gazes straight forward. As a runway model we don't really like to pick people out of the audience. And we kind of have, kind of just a basic look, we're not smiling, we're not aggravated, we're not happy, we're not sad, we're just kind of there, enjoying the moment. And you do this best when your lips are slightly parted, when your nose is straight to the forefront of the stage, and when your eyes are just above the head of the audience, as Nikki does so beautifully. So that's how we look when we're addressing an audience. Straight head, leveled chin, beautiful shoulders, great back, hips slightly swinged to one side when we're in a stance, arms by the side, about 2 to 3 inches from the waist, legs a foot apart, that is how we stand as a runway model. Awesome Nikki, thanks."
