"Now we're going to discuss the types of customer service. I'm Pamela Unruh on behalf of Expert Village. Now let's discuss different methods of providing great customer service when you're dealing with your customer in person. Now this is the most common method that you're going to deal with the customer by walking into your storefront. So the first thing that you want to think about and you've heard me say it before and I'll say it again, first impressions count. Appearance counts. Not only your appearance, but also the appearance of your workspace. When I was a corporate trainer, I did an exercise with my students and when they showed up on the first day, I met them with an old t-shirt on and torn jeans, tennis shoes, laces didn't match nothing. And I introduced myself as they came in, I said hey, your instructor, sit down. They went in and they sat down and you can hear them talking, oh my gosh is that my instructor? She doesn't look like she even, she got out of bed 10 minutes ago. And then I would go back in in my professional clothes ready to teach, just to point out what the difference was. Think about it, you've gone into those businesses where you've come across the person who doesn't look necessarily professional, it's very hard to get passed that, isn't it? Also, the workplace counts as well. Don't have inappropriate items sitting in your workspace. Make sure that it's neat, make sure that it is cleaned, and make sure that you have all of your tools accessible to you in order to help that customer."
