"REBECCA SATO: Hi. I'm Rebecca Sato with ExpertVillage.com. Let's talk about taking your freelance writing career to the next level because a lot of times as a freelance writer, we get comfortable. You can get the same clients that you've been working with for a while and you know how they operate and what they like and they like you, and so you're comfortable. And it might not even be the exact kind of writing you want to do and it might not be the exact pay you'd like to be making, but you get comfortable. And so it's important to realize that if you want to move forward in your career, theoretically, then you do have to at some point do things that will make that happen. Now, I don't want to say that if you get to a place where you're comfortable that you're a bad person for not really taking it to the next level, because that's fine. If you get to the point where you're happy and you don't want more clients and you don't want to do different styles of writing and you're happy with what you want, then that's actually wonderful. That's great. That means you've basically made it. You are where you want to be and there's nothing wrong with that. The problem is that a lot of times you do want to be able to write on a wide range of subjects and topics. And if you do one thing for too long, you kinda pigeonhole yourself in terms of your own thinking even. And you might come to think of yourself as, well, I write--I'm a copywriter for women's cosmetics. That's what I am. But you might be a really talented writer and you might be able to lot of different kinds of writing. So keep that in mind and as you feel like you've done something, you're at a certain pay level, a certain skill level, keep your eye open for jobs that are going to challenge you, that are going to push you to the next step. And don't be afraid to apply for them, and don't be afraid to bid on a lot of jobs and lose a lot of bids and get some. But the point is that you want to be pushing yourself. And if you aren't pushing yourself, then you're probably not learning new skills. You're probably not increasing your pay. And as a freelance writer, those are the things that you want to be concerned with."
