DR. SUSAN JEWELL: Hello. My name is Dr. Susan Jewell and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to talk to you about how to recognize and treat fevers and how to reduce the symptoms of fevers and what you can do. Now, one of the ways that you can do is that, of course, when you're having a fever, you're perspiring, you're sweating, and you're body is at a high temperature. So, you want to keep the room and the environment at a very cool, cold temperature to help you alleviate the symptoms of fever. Now, one of the way to do is to reduce the thermostat in your house. So here, we have the thermostat and to lower it a couple of degrees you set it at a lower temperature than normal, so you can just turn this thermostat down to a colder temperature just during the time when the person is having the fever bouts. And when they are cured and the symptoms have gone away, then you can readjust the thermostat accordingly to the most comfortable for your body. Another way that you could also do in terms of ventilation is that you should always keep a window slightly ajar so that you can get good circulation going through the house and through the room itself for the person who's suffering from the illness and having a very high temperature and fever. And so, you can keep a fan or so circulating in the room, and that would reduce the ambient temperature down by a couple of degrees. And so, these are certain ways that you could think of doing and utilizing to reduce the environmental temperature, the ambient temperature that the person when they're having high fevers.
