"Hello my name is Dr. Susan Jewell and welcome. This clip I’m going to talk to you about menopause and the definition of menopause and how it occurs. So what is menopause? Well basically menopause is the definition of “the permanent cessation of menstruation” and normally this happens to women at the age of fifty and over, but sometimes you get a certain condition in early, in women, called Early Premature Menopause and this happens at an earlier age, usually around forty or even earlier and this condition is usually due to either a medical condition, like idiopathic premature ovarian failure, which means that the ovary is not able to produce estrogen or it’s due to drugs and medication that causing the cessation of production of the hormone estrogen. But menopause basically is like I said the permanent cessation of menstruation, which means that the woman, at a certain age loses the production of this very important female hormone called estrogen and when you lose the protective effect of estrogen, then you, then the woman is at the risk of getting certain medical conditions like osteoporosis, or heart diseases. So this is what is the cause of menopause. "
