Video Transcript

"Hi. Today we're going to take a look at some different types of home health monitors. Don't be intimidated by that phrase. It's really a lot more simple than it sounds. There's a lot of advantages to monitoring different aspects of your health, different measurements and readings, from home. For example, if you think you're ill and you think you have a fever, the best way to ascertain that for sure is with a thermometer. There's no need to bother a doctor of doctor's office or other health professionals, such as myself, with something as basic as a temperature. Really, the most we can do for you is when we know you have a fever and there's something causing that fever and we can help you with that. The things we're going to look at today are a digital thermometer, a home blood pressure monitor, a heart rate monitor, and a home cholesterol test. There's a great amount of value in measuring any of these figures at home. For people with hypertension, it's important to have a series of blood pressure readings from the same points in time, in the day, so you can monitor whether or not any medication you're on is effective. Cholesterol test. Never hurts to know your cholesterol value, especially if you have been diagnosed with heart disease or have been told you have high cholesterol in the past. The home heart rate monitor is important, again, for anybody with a cardiac disorder. It will help you to regulate your heart when you're working out. Decide if you're working out too hard or not working out hard enough as it may be. Like I say, we'll take a look at all of those today."
