"Now, as instructed, I've saved my little piece of paper with the home access code and the 800 number that I'll be calling for my results, and depending on shipping time and whether or not it's a weekend or a holiday, you should have your results in 24 to 48 hours. It's a touch tone phone line, or if you don't have a touch tone phone you'll be connected directly to a home access counselor who will give you your results over the phone and then be available for any questions or concerns you may have. If you have a touch tone phone you'll enter the code by touch tone and they'll give you your results and the option to connect to a live counselor if you so choose. If you have serious concerns about whether or not this test is going to come up positive for you. If you know you've possibly, if you know you've been exposed to the virus or you've possibly been exposed, or if you've gone through a period of unprotected sex and/or exchange of intravenous equipment with other IV drug users, it's not at all a bad idea to have a friend, a family member, or your spouse or significant other, if you're comfortable, whomever you're comfortable with, to be with you when you make the call. Even though there is a counselor available at the other end of the toll free number it still doesn't replace having a warm body there, somebody in your immediate space to talk to face to face about what your results.
