"Now in addition to telling yourself the opposite of the negative things that you've been saying to yourself for all this time--you're counteracting that with the positive statements, I'm not dumb, I'm not whatever it is. Something else that you want to do, and this is sometimes hard for people to do because you feel a little silly, but it is very important if you have low self esteem and you're trying to improve it, to do self-affirmations. And self-affirmations are basically blanket statements about you done in a positive manner. Now, we talked about saying positive things specifically. Somebody says you're dumb, you tell yourself I'm smart. Affirmations are a little broader than that. Affirmations can be about anything. I'm a good person and I deserve good things to happen to me. Well, you know maybe nobody's going around telling you you're a bad person, but you may feel like you're a bad person, so you want to tell yourself, I'm a good person, I deserve good things to happen. I'm a worthy person, I'm a trustworthy person. Come up with all the things that you want to be, and tell yourself that you are those things already."
