"Okay, so we've got all of these self-destructive beliefs, and we've established that they're all unrealistic, and we're not going to do them anymore. Easy? No. We're going to take away the unrealistic self-destructive beliefs. We're not going to tell ourselves that we're fat, that we're stupid, that we're never going to amount to anything. They are negative. Well we have to replace them with something. We have to replace them with something positive. So, we're talking about the opposites. And this is where I like to use the term fake it till you make it. You may not believe that you're a good mother, but you're going to have to replace your telling yourself that you're a bad mother with telling yourself that you're a good mother. The negative statements that you tell yourself must be replaced with positive statements that you tell yourself, whether you believe them or not. Now, if the negative statements are coming from an outside source, this will be even harder. If you're husband always tells you you're stupid, or your mother always tells you you're worthless, or whatever it is, you have to then counteract that in your head and tell yourself that isn't true. I am worth--I am a worthwhile person. That is not true, I am a smart person. That is not true--whatever the situation is. But you have to replace the negative statement with a positive statement."
