"One of the more interesting things that we talk about in Chinese medicine is how weather and temperature can affect us. So often times you may come in with something like Bells Palsy and your practitioner starts asking about fans and open windows and air conditioning vents and how that would relate. In Chinese medicine, we talk about the invasion of wind. And wind is what we say disease is carried on. And so, in a way, we all know about it. If you've ever been out on a cold blustery day where its nice and dry and its maybe 40 degrees and you've got a shirt like this on and that wind comes from behind and attacks you neck and you go wow, that's uncomfortable and we roll up our collar on our shirt to protect our neck. That's actually where we say that we get invaded by wind and it causes things like colds and flu and even pain. And then we say that with the wind, there are a variety of other attributes that may come with it, that may aggravate it. So we look at things like dampness that can come in very humid environments. Heat, especially on a hot day or even working in odd things like a pizza oven. Cold. If you're working in cold water or in a freezer, you may be invaded by cold. Wind we talked about. And then dry. If you're working in a desert, you may be invaded by all these things. And oddly enough, they can create pain, they can create illness and they can create stagnation and problems within our own system and energetics. So often times we'll talk about those things and ask questions weather and how things affect you. So be sure to let your practitioner know all about how that you're effected by the weather."
