"This tasty herb is known as dang shen. Also, the Latin name is cananopsis. You see this herb starting to show up in a lot of energy formulas because it does have a tonifying or building function that?s very effective for the chi of the body. In Chinese medicine, we often times use this in place of ren chen or ginseng in about a three or five to one ratio. Often times ginseng's a little bit too strong and awfully expensive for the good stuff and so this is something that is a little bit milder but still has that building function for us. So we can use dang shen, actually I like it as a snack when I'm hungry, to tonify the spleen chi or the energy of the body so we can aid in our digestion, it can help with loose stools and with a weakened immune system. So enjoy some dang shen and we can use it in things like our eight treasure congee where it?s already cooked up and much more tender to eat, or we can actually just suck on it and snack on it as we would just a little twig that's around. But its often times you'll find it in other formulas and combinations for a specific function to aid in that immune system or in digestive function boosting."
