"SARAH HAUER: Hi. I'm Sarah Hauer. SIG HAUER: And I'm Sig Hauer and we're professional practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine. SARAH HAUER: We're here on behalf of Expert Village. SIG HAUER: And welcome to our video. An acupuncture tool that we haven't talked about is the common hammer, the claw hammer. This helps us drive the needle into the patient and, of course, the claw helps us get it out if it's stuck in there too hard. SARAH HAUER: Well, my favorite tool is the blow gun where you stand across the room and then you... SIG HAUER: Ooh and that--that's fun because you get to try to do it a few times to hit the target right. SARAH HAUER: Especially with the really long needles. SIG HAUER: Yeah. Now, for something completely serious. Another area that we see very commonly is respiratory disorders where people have difficulty with breathing, bronchitis, sinusitis, asthma, allergies, COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, these are things that we see quite a bit with respiratory problems and, again, here acupuncture and herbs treat that very well. There have been several cases where people come in. A specific case that comes to mind was a lady, oh, about 60 years old, had had pneumonia for several months and had gone through several courses of antibiotics without success, came to me and we did several treatments; if I remember correctly, we did about a dozen treatments or so, also did some Chinese herbal formulas for her and it cleared up. She got much, much better within about a month, month and a half and to even reinforce that, she had gone to get a chest x-ray and it showed that it had cleared up. Another case where we see that traditional Chinese medicine is very successful are things typically people don't think to come to us for something like pneumonia but we do very well with pneumonia, any kind of respiratory disorder as I mentioned before, the different list, and even colds and flus, we do very well. And when you come in, if you're starting to feel a cold come on or a flu come on, just come on in and we'll get some needles going, we'll do the intakes, see where you are in your cold and what herbs are applicable at that time as well. SARAH HAUER: With conditions like emphysema and COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, we can actually help increase the respiratory function of the lungs and quite often with these chronic conditions that people are able to reduce their medications and they're definitely able to increase their quality of life and their physical activity. With regular acupuncture we can really help increase the function of the lungs and overall health."
