"Hi! I am Dr. Sean Flaherty from Summer Chiropractic in Puyallup, Washington. What is the definition of chiropractic? Well, chiropractic is a science, it is an art and it is a philosophy. It is a science in the fact that we study the body mechanics, neurophysiology, the biochemistry and on and on. It is an art in the fact that each chiropractor you meet probably has a little bit of technique, a little bit different touch than the next chiropractor, just like people learn differently, some people learn when they touch, some people learn when they hear, some people learn better when they see. People also heal that way depending on different techniques and different touch, some people like a very physical adjustment, some people like a very light force adjustment and chiropractors will change their style a little bit in order to accommodate that person. And of course it is a philosophy in that chiropractic we believe that the brain and the spinal column is where to look for the root cause of all disease. We do not just address the symptom as far as they are giving you a drug to make that symptom go away, although I would never want to live in a town where there are no drugs and no surgery there is a definitely a place for that. However, we look to the root cause of all your problems, for example if you are driving down the road and your oil light came on, you might not notice any difference in how the car feels and if you took a black magic marker and just covered up that red light, it will be gone and you do not know the difference, that is kind of what a drug can do for you and over time it can be abused, so what we are going to do is we are going to inside and we are going to look why is that light coming on, why are you having this problem and that is a general definition of what we do as chiropractors.
