"The next thing I want to talk to you guys about is keeping your hands clean when you put your contact lens in or any contact lens care; talking them out as well. You want to make sure that you, for breakfast you didn't have a spicy burrito and then you try to put your contact lenses in. Get some hot sauce, get something on your hands and it's not going to feel good when it goes into your eye. The same thing goes for really just about anything. Ladies, if you wear a lot, if you wear lotion, have lotion on your hands and all of a sudden you go to put a contact lens, little do you know that lotion acts as an irritant and will really irritate the eye once the contact lens is in there. So, wash the hand off of any lotion. The other thing is trimming your nails. You want to make sure that your nails are not pointed at the end, or at least enough so you can navigate the contact and getting it into your eye without scratching your eye. Long nails make it very difficult to navigate the contact around. You are touching your eye and you do run the risk of scratching your eye. So, good hand hygiene. Keep your hands clean and keep your nails trimmed when putting on or taking out your contact lenses."
