"One of the alternative products that took the country by storm a few years ago, and I'm sure you've all heard of this, is the Avon, skin so soft product. It works, it really does. But, like a lemon eucalyptus, you do have to reapply it quite often. There are several different companies, for instance, Cutter has come out with a skin so soft knock off. This one is called skinsations. It's basically the same chemical compound that they use in skin so soft and that was just a fluke. Nobody really developed that product. Avon really didn't develop that product as an insect retardant, however, when the people did apply it, they noticed they weren't getting bit. So it took off and we've all heard of it. It worked very well, but again, you do have to apply it quite frequently. This works as well, but you do have to apply this one pretty frequently, about once every 30 to 45 minutes. It will work if you apply it that way and stay away from the beat, if that is an issue for you."

on 5/18/2009 I grew up in Alaska, I'm 30 now and live in Florida, but I'm going back this summer. I remember mowing the lawn when I was 8 and using my mom's SSS to keep the gnats from biting. I went back last Summer, but couldn't find it; however, from what it sounds, they are actually selling the same thing but calling it "Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Insect Repellent Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30"? If you know anything about that and can tell me if it could be the same thing that could have been (20 years ago) in a shampoo size/shape bottle? (I'd rather not wear Alaska perfume (a.k.a. "Off") if I don't have to!) Thx
