Series Summary

The Achilles tendon is the extension of the gastrocnemius, soleus, and plantaris muscles in the lower-leg muscle group. It attaches these muscles to the heel bone and make movement of the ankle and lower leg possible. The thickest and strongest tendon in the human body, the Achilles tendon got its name from Greek mythology. The goddess Thetis, heard a prophecy about the death of her son. To prevent this from happening, she grabbed him by his heel and dipped him into the River Styx which protected his body from immanent harm. However, the unprotected heel was pierced with a poisonous arrow during the Trojan War, and Achilles was rendered lifeless.

The Achilles tendon is subject to inflammation, tendonitis, tendinosis, tendon rupture and tendinopathy. Learn about the anatomy of the ankle and the Achilles tendon in these expert videos. on 8/2/2008 This was great! Well done. Do you reccommend anything different for older folks with achilles injuries, around 64? I have a dear freind who loves the outdoors and walks e.t.c. but seems to suffer fromthis reoccurring injury to the achilles on one foot. She does well fora period andthen it suddenly flares up. I thought it would be a good idea to perhapos do some massaging even when she's not feeling any pain which is most of the time. What would you suggest? Thanks, I just found this site!

on 8/2/2008 Great videos, but the audio is really bad on ALL of the Achilles Tendon videos. Have to turn my speakers up to "MAX" and even then it is sometimes not clear.
