Now we're going to be doing Effleurage on the back. We're going to apply the oil. Effleurage is a great stroke for beginning a massage. It's used to apply the oil on the back, increase circulation which promotes a healthier immune system, also reduces stress and anxiety. This is called the butterfly stroke in Effleurage. Move down the sides of the spine in the erector muscles, down to the glutes, out to the sides, and up to the neck. Be sure to keep your wrists straight, your knees bent, and your hands soft. Again, gentle but firm pressure. You can also use one side of the back if you have a height disadvantage, or if the person on the table has a long torso. So you can come to the side of the table, anchor the hand, and move down over the glutes, the sides, to the neck. Effleurage is also a great technique to connect to other body parts, like the hands. Move down to the arm to the hands. And that's the Effleurage.
