"Hi, I'm Pam on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to talk about eating healthy and physical activity in four and five year olds. Germs are everywhere and stopping the spread of germs is one of the best ways to stay healthy. It protects against common viruses, bacteria and food borne illnesses. Now, the easiest way to stop germs is to wash your hands. You want to make sure that you are washing your hands after every time you go to the bathroom, anytime that you come in contact with a bodily function such as blowing your nose, sneezing, or anything that involved blood, vomit, anything like that. Now hand washing has been shown to reduce the number of sick days in school children because it also decreases the incidence of diarrhea in children attending daycare centers. Now, thorough hand washing lasts twenty seconds with soap and they say hot water, but you want to make it as warm as a kid can take it. Children attending daycare centers are at a higher risk for gastrointestinal diseases, and believe it or not, many parents don't emphasize washing your hands after going to the bathroom, but over fifty percent of food borne illnesses come from improper hand washing and coming in contact with things like feces and urine. Now it's important to emphasize washing your hands with food because like the food, any germs that accompany it go directly into your body. And that sums up germs. "
