"Hi! I'm Kristen Bryda here for Expert Village. I'm a dietetic intern at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and I'm here to today to talk to you about the freshman 15. What kind of healthy food can you keep in your dorm room? Well, often college students don't buy healthy foods because they think they're expensive, but that's not always the case. You can often buy healthy snacks and meals in the dining hall or student convenient stores using your meal plan. Some healthy things you can keep in your room are diet sodas and water so you're not drinking your calories, you're saving them for foods. You can also keep other healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables. These are the best things to eat when you're hungry because they're very high in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Fiber is great because it keeps you satisfied longer. You're not hungry an hour later after you've eaten them. Some healthy snacks that you can buy at convenient stores and dining halls that you can keep in your dorm room are things such as dried fruit or fresh fruits and vegetables, resins, cereals, and yogurt. Keeping these things around, as well as sandwich items and frozen low calorie dinners for meals can help you decrease the amount of calories you in take during the day."
