"Hello. My name is Leslie Moselle and I'm from Tampa, Florida. And, on behalf of Expert Village, these are the signs of depression. For a doctor or other health professional to diagnose depression, most of the following signs and symptoms must be present for at least two weeks. Drug and Alcohol Abuse: When alcohol is not just consumed at social activities, when you find excuses to drink, when you are drinking at inappropriate times or drinking alone, this may be a sign of depression. Although alcohol is okay to use occasionally, if used when depressed, it may be used excessively. This alcohol or drug abuse will lead to problems at home, at work, and have long-lasting effects on your body. Alcohol is a depressant and may temporarily leave you feeling numb and euphoric, but when it wears off, the problems causing your depression will still be present. Abuse of illegal or proscribed drugs are not recommended for anyone, especially those suffering from depression. Alcohol should be monitored if you feel that you are suffering from depression. "
