"When choosing the style of hearing aid that's most appropriate for you, there are a variety of things that you need to consider. The first thing that we need to consider is the severity of hearing loss. In general, the rule of thumb is, the more severe the hearing loss, the larger the hearing aid that's required. The reason for that, is with a more severe hearing loss, more amplification is required. You need a larger device to provide that amplification and a larger battery and power supply. Another consideration is life style and communication needs. That comes into play when you're determining the number of functions and features that you need on a hearing aid. The more functions and features that you need the hearing aid to be able to perform for you, sometimes you need to go to a larger size of hearing aid. Another consideration that comes into play when selecting a style of hearing aid that's right for you is personal preference. Which style would you be most comfortable wearing. Some people like having one piece that fits in the ear. Where as other people prefer the open, the instant fit, with the behind the ear style. With the instant fit or the open behind the ear hearing aid, the fitting range is a little more limited. There not as powerful and can't provide as much amplification as some of the larger custom fit hearing aids. So, that's a consideration."
