"Water pollution is not just a national story any more it is actually in most communities throughout the United States in one way or another whether it is MTBE in wells or petrolate rocket fuel additives, nitrates in the water, different things. There is actually 400,000 known landfill ponds and lagoons in the United States that contain some of the most deadly known substances to man and that does not take into account the hundreds of thousands big and small businesses across the United States that do illegal dumping. For anybody that has seen Erin Brochovich's movie or knows about the Santis Field laboratoies you certainly know what I am referring to. According to a US Congressional study there is over 255 million metric tons of hazardous chemical wastes dumped into the environment here in the United States. So you can see that yesterday's solution is today's problem. Everything that we have been burying and dumping into the environment is all breaking down and degrading and the rains keep washing these things further and further down into our aquavits. There is about 35,000 different types of pesticides and poisons used throughout the United States and these chemicals wind up in our drinking water supply a lot of times."
