"There a lot of different stressful things about having Lupus. Not feeling well, not being able to do things everyday and just worrying about your health, changing relationships in your life. There a lot of things that can cause stress and there a lot of ways to deal with stress but not all of them are very healthy. Fortunately, there are a lot of healthy ways to deal with stress also. Finding a creative outlet, keeping a journal, doing some other kind of creative work, that can help you release stress. Doing some kind of exercise particularly yoga or tai chi or something that has a relaxation component to it is going to help. If you are a spiritual person you may find relief that way in a church community or other kind of community. Another good thing to try is meditation. That can help you feel centered and really help the mind body connection. When your mind is centered it's going to help your body feel better. There is a simple breathing exercise you can do pretty much any place any time that is also going to help. It only takes a minute or two and you really feel better once you do this. Basically what you do you take the tip of your tongue put it on the roof of your mouth on that ridge like your making the "L" sound like "L". You?re going to breath in through your nose for a count of four and then your hold it for a count of seven and then your breath out through your mouth for a count of eight. It doesn't matter how quickly or slowly you count you just want to count steadily. You breathe in for four, hold it for seven and then breathe out through your mouth for eight and don't be afraid to make some noise when you?re doing that. Most of all it's just important to stay connected to the things that you care about, the things that you love, the people you care about, all the things that make you who you are and not let Lupus overtake your identity and not lose your sense of self. Stay grounded in who you are."
