What is Testicular Cancer?

Series Summary

Testicular cancer develops in the male reproductive system and affects around 8,000 men each year in the United States alone. It is most common in younger men, aged 15 to 40 years old, and has the highest cure rate of all cancers. The signs of testicular cancer include feeling a lump in one of the testicles, hard or bumpy ridges, impotence, dull aching in the lower abdomen, or an enlarged testicle due to a growing tumor. As with all cancer, catching testicular cancer earlier increases the survival rate among sufferers of this disease.

My name is Dr. Susan Jewell, and on behalf of Expert Village today I'm going to talk to you about understanding testicular cancer and in that way then you will know exactly what kind of questions that you can write up to go and see your doctor about. It's very important that you actually make a list of questions, and not just in this case about testicular cancer, about any medical condition that you actually think that you might or undergoing that want to go and address the questions with your doctor. It doesn't matter how trivial the question is. You should write it down and make a list, and therefore the doctor will be able to give you more information and help you understand your medical condition and also maybe help you to give you some more treatment options or management of your particular condition or cancer.
