Reiki is a Japanese spiritual healing practice that focuses on the treatment of physical, emotional and mental diseases. Developed by Mikao Usui, reiki healing teaches that there is a universal life force energy which can be accessed by the practitioner to heal the recipient. There is a process called attunement by which believers claim that anyone can gain access to a persons life force energy. While it is always important for patients to seek medical care for serious medical conditions, reiki is often claimed to be a gentle therapy that allows the body to heal itself more effectively. Because reiki can be practiced with hands on or off the recipient, it is easily combined with other alternative medicine healing modalities, like massage therapy, acupuncture or aromatherapy.

"Hi. This is Eileen Day on behalf of Expert Village, and this video is going to encompass what Reiki is. We're going to call it Reiki 1 and go through a bit of the history, the atonement process, what coming to oneness is about giving Reiki to oneself, to others, hands off the body, hands on, and just how we can work with it in our community, creating circles, getting into hospitals, its use with other modalities, its use with sound and color. It's wide and varied, and we're going to get down to specifics. So our next segment is going to be the Japanese translation and characters of Reiki. Stay tuned."
