"This is Eileen Dey, on behalf of Expert Village. In this section, we will talk about the 5 primary elements. Just like in other Asian medicines (like Chinese medicine, Japanese, as well as Tibetan) -- you have fire, air, water, wind. This 5th element of 'prana' or 'ether' or 'chi'. In the Ayurvedic system, you have 3 qualities or doshas of human constitution. The doshas are fluctuating energy that define all things on earth. Each is made of a combination of two of the five great elements. Vada is formed from air and ether. Hida from fire and water. Kaffa from water and earth. All of the elements themselves need to be functioning in harmony for an individual to be in a balanced state of awareness. As mentioned earlier -- an Ayurvedic practictioner's goal is to pacify any of the elements that may get out of sync and bring the individual back to a centered state. In this next segment, we will talk about the quality of union as it relates to Ayurveda."
