"There are some things you should consider before you whiten your teeth. For instance, do you have all natural teeth? People ask us if they have some bonded teeth or veneers, crown or bridgework, will those teeth whiten. The answer to that is, usually, cosmetically treated teeth can whiten only by virtue of taking out any type of surface stain that may be incorporated in there. And therefore, not to be really a main factor of tooth whitening. We would not like for you to whiten natural teeth that had been previously matched for your cosmetically treated teeth. So we don't want your natural teeth to respond more to whitening and then your cosmetically treated teeth to be looking out of place, or as if they need replacement. So that would be one factor to consider. Secondly you would want to know that there are some associated side effects to tooth whitening. One would be sometimes sensitivity - tooth sensitivity. If you're starting off and you already have sensitive teeth, you may want to reconsider teeth whitening or at least the manner in which you whiten your teeth, because some teeth whiteners are known to create or cause more tooth sensitivity than other. And the other thing is tissue discomfort. Once in a while, some people experience some tissue irritation to their tooth whitening. It can happen whether you're using custom trays through a dental office or whether you're using a product from a department store. But these are things that we'd like you to know and to consider before you venture into tooth whitening."
