"Hi, I'm Dr. Filardo and I'm certified in acupuncture and we're here with Expert Village today in our office. And in our next segment we're talking about, sometimes we'll get a call into our office and my staff will answer and a patient will say, well do you do needle acupuncture, or do you do electrical or do you do laser. So we're going to talk about the different forms of acupuncture. And the reason why there are different forms, sometimes we all think that when we do acupuncture, we think of the puncture of the needle, which is very very common. However, we want to talk about why that's not true and why there are other forms. When we have a meridian, and we'll talk about that in the next segment, but let us take just one point for example, right here. That point is four thousand years old and it's already diagnosed to treat a certain condition or ailment. And so we know that that's where we need to put the needle and so we can do that. So these are our needles and we'll stimulate that point right there. Well if it's just a point that needs to be stimulated, and really we're just trying to break the skin resistance, why couldn't we use other forms. So that's what kind of the Chinese theory is about, is that there are other forms. If we can break that skin resistance and stimulate that point, we're going to get the same result. And that's what they researched and they found out it was true. And so what we do, we can use another form of acupuncture needle, this one's a patch. And the patch has a bead. And the bead can either be stainless steel, silver or gold, depending on the effects that you're getting. And so you can put this bead right there. And the bead actually doesn't break the skin, but it has an electrical charge that breaks the skin, or transmits through the skin and causes an energy impulse. And so you can get the same effect in that area. This one is something which is commonly used, it's called an ear press needle and it would commonly be used in the ear. And the reason for it, it has waterproof band-aid material on top of it. So when we put it in the ear, at a certain point and there's one hundred and fifty-nine points in the ear, it will stay in there for a period of time. We want it basically to stay in there from one week to two weeks and then we'll take it out, disinfect the ear and reapply for a particular condition, smoking being one of the more popular ones for the ear as well as weight loss. So that's the ear press needle. This is called the intradermal needle and it doesn't have any band-aids on it, so you'll want to use it in an office. And that one you just take and stick in. And it's not the most comfortable needle because it doesn't have a guide to, and they are a little longer and that might be an area of heavier tissue, a heavier muscular tissue. And then we have, and these are new, and these are another type of ear press needle, but they have a magnet in it, so that it increases the energetical flow of it and they also have a spring to it. So we use this for acupuncture in the ear. We use it for smoking and weight loss and addiction therapy. And this one's kind of put in the ear and it just kind of springs and it shoots that kind of, and embeds in the skin and then we cover it with a pad for water proofing so the patient can still take a shower."
