"In the external Qigong therapy, one of the most recognized projecting qi is the infrared rays, which mainly stem from the increasing skin temperature caused by the strengthening parasympathetic tone during Qigong exercise. Today, modern instruments have been used to detect or simulate the infrared or electromagnetic waves coming from the palms of Qigong masters who are using internal energy to treat illnesses. Generally, this kind of external qi only can be emitted at a short distance, so the palms of external Qigong practitioners should be placed very closely to the body of patient. Currently, scientific researches about the effects of external Qigong are underway. Some functional illnesses such as hypertension, neurosis, even tumors may be treated by external Qigong therapy. "
