Hi, my name is Dr. Steve Minors of Rehab Effects in Austin, Texas. And today will be discussing the application of Kinesiotape. As we mentioned in the previous segment, you can use Kinesiotape for various things. More specifically let's talk about a couple of body areas that would be perfect for Kinesiotape and the condition that you might suffer from in those areas. So we may have a wrist injury or carpal tunnel syndrome. We may have tennis elbow in the elbow. You may have a torn rotator cuff in the shoulder. You may have neck pain from perhaps a car accident. You may have low back pain. There may be hip joint pain or hip flexor pain. Or you may have a slightly torn hamstring or gluteal muscle from perhaps running or some other type of sport that you participate in. A twisted knee. A slightly torn meniscus, shin splints, calf pain. A twisted ankle. You may have turf toe which you may get from possibly running or playing soccer or playing football. A contact sport usually involving the feet on turf. So, there are several different issues such as those and plantar fasciitis of course. And so we're going to show on our model a couple of different areas that we've already applied Kinesiotape and also how you would apply Kinesiotape to for example, an ankle sprain. So first we have for carpel tunnel, you would kinesiotape in such a fashion for the carpel tunnel itself, which is located right about here. You also want to kinesiotape these muscles because the muscles that start at the elbow and run down along here run through, run past the carpal tunnel into the hand. So you also want to address those. We also have perhaps a knee that's been either twisted or we may have IT Band Syndrome. IT Band Syndrome is Iliotibial Band Syndrome. Fairly common with runners, especially when they are training for long distances and there may be a foot or hip problem that may cause this. This helps with the decreasing the pain and inflammation. We also may have a torn ligament or a again with the twisted knee, we're going to kinesiotape over here. And also you can kinesiotape the hamstring if it's a pulled hamstring or the quad muscle, right through there. You do that right here. Now we're also going to Kinesiotape the ankle. And we've gone ahead and gotten our Kinesiotape ready so we're going to go ahead and apply it. So go ahead and hold your foot right there. Great. So for sprained ankle, Kinesiotape allows the skin to just slightly lift along here and for you the patient to get drainage through here so we can decrease the swelling and get you back to running, walking or your sport of choice. Faster.
