Hi my name is Dr. Steve Minors, of Rehab FX, in Austin, Texas. And today we are going to discuss wrist decompression. Wrist decompression is a process by which we essentially decompress the bones and the structures within the wrist. In order to provide the patient with relief. Especially if we have a patient who is suffering from perhaps carpal tunnel syndrome. The schematic will better explain the process. This is a cross section of the wrist and what we have here in this area is, called the flexor retinaculum. Which is basically the area where we have our carpal tunnel. And when we perform the carpal tunnel, what we are trying to achieve, is a release in pressure in this area. The flexor retinaculum, which is this gray part right along here, maybe become tight and start to compress the area. In other words, start to compress the carpal tunnel area or the carpal tunnel. And by performing the wrist, non-surgical, decompression we are actually relieving area. We are relieving the pressure in the area when we do that. So that the patient may have improved range of motion, decreased pain, and an increased ability to function longer at work or in their sport of choice, for a longer period of time.
