Hi my name is Dr. Steve Minors with Rehab Affects in Austin, Texas and today we will be discussing the applications of lumbar non-surgical spinal decompression. Here we have the patient all setup on the table and we're going to go ahead and get her strapped in and ready to go. Here we go here, just like that. Okay, sit up just a little bit. Good. Okay, deep breathe, all out. Good. Okay, this should be nice and snug in there. Okay, now depending on the part of the lumbar spine that is affected such as the last disk, the L5-S1 disk, or perhaps the L4-L5 disk which was discussed in the previous segment of spinal decompression, that determines the angle at which the machine pulls. So, we are going to set this for approximately ten degrees and that's it right about there. Perfect. We're going to loosen the table so we can get separation and we then set the machine just right so we are going to have it pull for thirty seconds at a time give a low force for about fifteen seconds and we're going to start her at about sixty pounds of pull. Some studies suggest that it is half the body weight plus ten to twenty pounds and I personally agree with that, but initially when you are first starting out with a patient I'd rather start light, be conservative, and make sure this is a comfortable position for them as well as the modality of spinal decompression being appropriate for them. So we start off a little light on the first one then we can make some changes if we need to after. So, we set it for approximately eighteen minutes and we start and it begins to pull like so.
