"Hello my name is Dr. Susan Jewell and on behalf of Expert Village I am going to talk to you today about the topic of hemorrhoids. Now I am going to talk to you about the signs and symptoms, the risk factors, the causes and also more importantly how you can find different ways to alleviate the pain of hemorrhoids. Now in this clip we are going to talk about risk factors. Now certain risk factors actually put a person more at risk for getting hemorrhoids. Now for example I put a list here. The first and most common cause of hemorrhoids are people on a terrible high fatty diet or obesity overweight. Because overweight and obesity causes a lot of weight to put pressure on the body especially the lower part and the rectum area where it's going to compress a lot of the vessels supplying the blood to the anus region causing the person at risk to get a hemorrhoids. The other one is pregnancy. A lot of pregnant women are prone to getting hemorrhoids because of the enlarging fetus developing the uterus and especially in the third trimester when the fetus is quite a size that it actually compressed the blood flow. The vessels that feed the anus muscles. So a lot of pregnant women actually come in complaining of hemorrhoids. Certain drugs too that cause hemorrhoids put you at risk. Drugs that causes faster constriction or narrowing of the vessels would also give you at risk of getting hemorrhoids. Chronic diseases, constipation if you are a person that suffers a lot from constipation because you know you have a terrible diet and you don't eat enough fiber. So on and so forth. Then that is going to put you at risk for getting hemorrhoids. And importantly lifestyle because lifestyle is a factor that plays a major contributing factor I said to forming hemorrhoids. You can change that. That is the one thing that you can actually change the most is your lifestyle. Smoking and alcohol puts you at higher risk than normal for getting hemorrhoids. So these are some of the risk factors that you should consider when you are thinking about how you could stop getting hemorrhoids."
