"Hello, my name is Dr. Susan Jewell and in this clip we are going to talk about some of the causes of male menopause or andropause and also what can be done about it. Now, the first thing that you do, is if you feel that you are having these symptoms of male menopause, then you can go to the doctor and he will take some tests. One of the tests will be to measure the testosterone level and see if that's the cause of your signs and symptoms. He'll measure the testosterone level and to see if it's reduced in its production level. Then he'll look at all of the causes of this andropause. And here are some of the causes of andropause. One, people who have liver diseases. Liver disease can cause a reduction in testosterone level. And also people with thyroid disease or thyroid problems could cause the body to reduce the production of testosterone. And kidney problems are just the same. So, people on medication for these diseases, the medication itself, as well as the disease itself, can cause the testosterone level to be reduced to the point where you are going to get the signs and symptoms of andropause or male menopause. Now the treatment is relatively quite simple, the doctor will then just prescribe to you testosterone replacement therapy, very much like the female counterpart the hormonal replacement therapy, where they're going to give you testosterone to supplement the reduction in your body. So hopefully then that would alleviate the signs and symptoms of male menopause."
