"Hi, I'm Carmen Lynne with Expert Village. So now I'm going to tell you about the three stages of dreams. We all go into these stages every single night. Each stage lasts about 30 minutes, and when I say a stage of dreaming, that means the period during the night when you are in REM, that stands for rapid eye movement. There are different types of sleep. Between these 90 minute periods, you're going into deep sleep, where you're not actually dreaming, and then you actually come into a little bit lighter sleep when you're dreaming. So the first stage is called the wishful thinking stage, and that is happening during the first part of the night, right after you very first fall asleep. This is really the subconscious just filing away everything that's happened during the day, kind of sorting it out into different files. It's just kind of getting everything ready and making your mind be a little bit more ordered and organized. It's not a very important or significant period of dreaming, and that's why we call it the wishful thinking, it's just the very first stage of dreams. Then we're going to be looking at the other two stages in the next two clips. "
