"Hi my name is Carol and I am a registered dental hygienist and I will be speaking on behalf of Expert Village and in this segment we will be talking about using a tongue scraper. When using a tongue scraper, use it after brushing and flossing. What you do and this particular tongue scraper is a little bit easier to use and will help you get to the back of your tongue a little bit easier. On one end it has the ridges and some people prefer to use that and on the other end it has two rows of bristles. The point of the tongue scraper helps to get the plaque that is on the tongue because the same plaque is in between your teeth is also the same as on your tongue. What you do when you use a tongue scraper is that you are going to use a back to front motion starting at the back of the tongue and scraping forward doing this a couple of times. Doing this once a day after regular brushing and flossing, this is going to help get in between the grooves of the teeth where the plaque builds up. This is also good to help prevent against bad breath. One other thing that you can do is use a rinse. Put a little bit of rinse on the tip of the toothbrush and then use the same back to front scraping motion. If you don’t have a tongue scraper, you can also just use your regular toothbrush and you would use the same motion either vertically or horizontally back to front a couple of times. After you use your toothbrush or the tongue scraper, make sure to rinse it off thoroughly and store it in a cool dry place. "
