"Hi, Christi Ferretti here with Expert Village. And I'm going to give you a few helpful tips today about carrots. Pretty simple vegetable to buy. I'd say most people buy them in the bags, little baby carrots. The basics on those, I don't have any here to show you, but you want to look for the liquid in the bag, make sure there's not any extra moisture in the bag, make sure they are not slimy. The go pretty quick in the grocery stores, so I don't think you'll have much trouble with those, but when buying a whole carrot, if possible, you want to try to find the ones that have the green tops on them. Anytime you cut a vegetable, you are basically starting the decaying process. So you want to, if you can buy that, you want to make sure that that leafiness on the end is going to be bright green and not start to turn yellow. If you do have to buy them all ready trimmed, which is what most people are going to get. You want to make sure that this core here is basically not squishy, not starting to get moldy or mushy. And most importantly, and I know everybody has done it at some point and time. You've gone into your crisper drawer or into your refrigerator to get a carrot, and its kind of limp and wilty. You just want to make sure that the carrots that you get in the grocery store have a little snap to them."
