"Hi! I'm Dr. Alida Smisek on behalf of expertvillage.com. I'm here to talk to you about teeth whitening tips and techniques. In this clip, we're going to talk about how to know if you have staining that will not respond to whitening products. The best results from whitening products come from stains that are caused by extrinsic factors such as smoking, drinking dark colas, dark teas, coffees, and consuming dark foods. These type of thing will respond well to whitening products and you'll get a longer lifetime out of your whitening products if you avoid those things after whitening. If you have staining that's caused by internal reasons or due to root canal treated teeth, they are not going to respond well to whitening products. Internal staining is staining that is built into the tooth during the developmental process, either due to trauma or some types of medication such as tetracycline if given to someone during the time that they're teeth are developing can cause internal staining."
