"Hi! I'm Dr. Alida Smisek on behalf of expertvillage.com. I'm here to talk to you about teeth whitening tips and techniques. In this clip, we're going to talk specifically about how to whiten root canal treated teeth. Unfortunately, in a lot of instances root canal treated teeth will have a grey or yellow appearance, and this is often due to bleeding internally within the tooth. This type of staining does not usually respond well to the bleaching products that are available to us, and we have to often do the bleaching from within the tooth. It's actually a relatively simple procedure to be done and it does get good results. What will happen is your dentist will remove the filling that was placed at the end of the root canal and place the bleaching product within the tooth. They will seal that off from your oral environment and you would have that in your teeth for a short period of time until it starts to lighten up. At the conclusion of that, the filling will be replaced on the tooth and if necessary, you could try some external bleaching products to get a little bit more whitening. If you don't get good results from this there are other ways to consider making a darken tooth look more cosmetically acceptable such as crowns or veneers, and those are things that you could also discuss with your dentist."
